George Dick is an Oakland, California native who spent much of his early years on the waters of the San Francisco Bay. He went on to attend the California Maritime Academy, located in Vallejo, California, where he received a Bachelors of Science in Marine Transportation and his USCG 3rd Mate’s license. While in school at the maritime academy he began working aboard tugboats on the San Francisco bay, unaware that he was in fact setting the foundation for his career as a mariner. Following graduation, he began working in the offshore towing industry, navigating the western waters and rivers of the United States. A decade later, he now works as a captain on these offshore towboats, and is an aspiring San Francisco Bay Pilot. Somewhere along the way he picked up a camera with hopes to capture some of his daily life at sea. He quickly developed a passion for photographing his working environment, and showcasing the beauty and magnitude of the maritime industry. His hopes are to bring you a close up and intimate perspective of what it’s like to spend your life on the water.
